Dow has partnered with Brivaplast and TecnoGi to enhance circularity in the luxury goods industry by repurposing high-quality materials that would otherwise go to waste. The collaboration focuses on reprocessing imperfect perfume caps, originally made from Dow’s SURLYN™ resin, into high-end components for luxury footwear and leather goods. This initiative reduces manufacturing scrap while extending the lifecycle of valuable materials across multiple sectors.

As a global leader in materials science, Dow supplies SURLYN™ resin to Brivaplast, a leading cosmetic packaging manufacturer. This material is prized for its aesthetic and performance qualities, making it ideal for crafting flawless, gem-like perfume caps for renowned fragrance brands. However, the stringent quality standards in luxury packaging lead to the production of imperfect caps that cannot be used. Instead of discarding these pieces, the new partnership ensures they are given a second life. TecnoGi, an innovative manufacturer of components for the footwear and leather goods industry, will reprocess these imperfect perfume caps into premium materials for high-end fashion products.

By leveraging their expertise, Dow, Brivaplast, and TecnoGi are demonstrating how cross-industry collaboration can drive sustainability in the luxury sector. This initiative not only reduces waste but also showcases the potential for circularity in high-value industries, reinforcing the importance of keeping materials in use for as long as possible.

Imran Munshi, Global Consumer Market Segment Leader at Dow, highlighted the growing demand for sustainable materials and the company’s commitment to advancing circular solutions. “Our collaboration with Brivaplast and TecnoGi comes at a time when demand for sustainable materials and packaging solutions continues to grow. At Dow, we recognize our role in accelerating the circular economy for plastics across European industries, and our customers expect nothing less. We’re proud to show what can be achieved by working together across the value chain to keep valuable materials in the loop for longer.”

Brivaplast sees this partnership as an opportunity to uphold its high product standards while significantly reducing post-industrial waste. Marco Roda, Head of Business Development at Brivaplast, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability. “At Brivaplast, we maintain the highest standards for our products. This collaboration allows us to uphold these standards while minimizing post-industrial scrap and contributing to a more sustainable future.”

TecnoGi also expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, recognizing its benefits for both manufacturing efficiency and sustainability goals. Paola Zanetti, CFO at TecnoGi, stated, “We are excited to be part of this initiative that not only supports our manufacturing processes but also aligns with our sustainability goals. Transforming manufacturing scrap into valuable components for luxury footwear and leather goods is a win-win for all involved.”

This collaboration underscores the potential for sustainability-driven innovation in the luxury sector, setting a precedent for how companies can work together to reduce waste and maximize resource efficiency.
