Doosan Enerbility Co. has secured an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract worth approximately $200 million as part of a consortium selected for a gas-fired power plant project in Qatar, according to KED Global media reports. The consortium, which includes Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), signed the agreement on March 3 with Qatar Electricity & Water Co. (QEWC) for a $439.5 million project aimed at enhancing the country’s power infrastructure.

Under the contract, the consortium will oversee the development of a 500-megawatt single-cycle peak generation gas power plant in Ras Abu Fontas Industrial Zone, located south of Doha. The project scope includes the commissioning of two F-class advanced gas turbine generator units along with auxiliary systems. Doosan Enerbility is responsible for approximately half of the total project value, reinforcing its position as a key player in the global power plant construction sector.

The power plant is scheduled for completion and expected to become operational by January 2027. Designed as a peak-load power facility, it will help stabilize Qatar’s electricity grid by addressing increased demand during peak hours. Such plants play a crucial role in ensuring grid reliability and efficiency, particularly in regions experiencing rapid industrial growth and urbanization.

This latest EPC contract aligns with Qatar’s National Vision 2030, which emphasizes the adoption of a more efficient and sustainable energy mix to support the nation’s economic and environmental goals. Qatar has been making significant investments in its energy sector, focusing on optimizing power generation and reducing its carbon footprint while maintaining a stable electricity supply.

For Doosan Enerbility, this project represents another milestone in its international expansion, particularly in the Middle Eastern market, where demand for advanced power generation technologies continues to grow. The company has been actively involved in several large-scale infrastructure projects worldwide, leveraging its expertise in gas and renewable energy solutions.

With the successful execution of this contract, Doosan Enerbility further strengthens its position as a trusted EPC provider in the power sector. Its collaboration with PowerChina underscores the importance of strategic partnerships in executing complex energy projects and meeting the evolving needs of global energy markets.

As the energy landscape shifts toward more sustainable and efficient solutions, Doosan Enerbility's role in Qatar’s latest power initiative highlights its ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in power generation technology.
