Coromandel International, a leading agri-solutions provider in India, has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma'aden), one of the world's largest producers of phosphate fertilisers. The agreement secures a long-term supply of crucial Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and NP/NPK fertilisers for the Indian market.
The MoU was officially signed on Wednesday, April 9, in the presence of key leadership from both organizations, including Coromandel International's Managing Director and CEO S. Sankarasubramanian, and Senior Vice President – Commercial, Phosphate Business Unit of Ma'aden Anas Al Bassam.
Beyond securing the supply of phosphatic fertilisers, the senior leadership of both companies highlighted the potential for further collaboration. They underscored the need to expand the partnership beyond phosphates and raw materials, with a focus on joint efforts in Research and Development (R&D), innovation, and speciality products aimed at advancing sustainable farming practices in India.
Narayanan Vellayan, Director of Strategic Sourcing at Coromandel International, emphasized the importance of this agreement in the current global context. "In recent times, DAP availability in India has been impacted due to global supply disruptions. This strategic partnership with Ma'aden is a natural extension of our longstanding relationship and will help Coromandel ensure timely availability of DAP and complex fertilisers to the Indian farming community," he stated. He further highlighted Coromandel's deep connection with over 4.5 million farmers, reiterating the company's commitment to Indian agriculture and its collaboration with Ma'aden as a trusted and sustainable partner.
Echoing this sentiment, Saud Al Tamimi, Director of Fertiliser Sales Commercial, Phosphate Business Unit at Ma'aden, reaffirmed Ma'aden's dedication to the Indian market. "Ma'aden has been the largest supplier of phosphate fertilisers to India for over a decade. We are expanding our production capacity from 6 million tonnes to 9 million tonnes in the near term, reinforcing our commitment to serve the growing needs of India's agriculture sector," he said.
This partnership builds upon a long-standing relationship between Coromandel and Ma'aden, where the latter has been a reliable supplier of ammonia to the Indian company. The new MoU signifies an expansion of this collaboration, aiming to ensure a consistent and sustainable supply of essential nutrients to support the agricultural sector in India.
Coromandel International stands as a pioneer and a leading agri-solutions provider in India, offering a diverse range of products and services across the agricultural value chain. The company operates in two primary segments: nutrient and other allied businesses, and crop protection. This long-term agreement with Ma'aden is expected to further strengthen Coromandel's position in the Indian fertiliser market and ensure a stable supply of essential nutrients for the country's farmers.
