Clariant, a leading specialty chemical company renowned for its unwavering commitment to sustainability, has forged a pivotal partnership with Lummus Technology to pioneer a groundbreaking endeavor in the heart of China's industrial landscape. Huizhou Boeko Materials Co. Ltd., a prominent player in the region's materials sector, has entrusted Clariant and Lummus Technology with the critical task of supplying their cutting-edge CATOFIN catalyst and process technology for a state-of-the-art dehydrogenation facility located in Huizhou City, China.

This landmark collaboration marks a significant milestone as it signifies the inaugural licensing of the CATOFIN technology by Huizhou Boeko, underscoring the confidence placed in Clariant and Lummus Technology to deliver innovative solutions tailored to the evolving needs of the industry. Under the terms of the agreement, Lummus Technology extends an exclusive license for the advanced process technology, complemented by Clariant's provision of the bespoke catalyst designed to optimize performance and efficiency.

The scope of the contract is extensive, encompassing the provision of technology licensing and basic engineering services, laying the foundation for the realization of a cutting-edge production facility. Upon its completion, the plant is poised to achieve an impressive annual production capacity of 550,000 metric tons of net isobutylene, positioning it as a key player in the regional market. The produced isobutylene will serve as the primary feedstock for the downstream production of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), catering to the burgeoning demand for essential chemical compounds.

At the heart of this operation lies the CATOFIN process, renowned for its exceptional efficiency and reliability. Leveraging fixed-bed reactors operating at optimal pressure and temperature, the process facilitates the catalytic dehydrogenation of isobutane, yielding significant quantities of isobutylene while simultaneously minimizing both capital investment and operational costs. This innovative approach underscores Clariant and Lummus Technology's commitment to driving sustainable growth and fostering technological advancement within the chemical manufacturing sector.

Expressing their satisfaction with the partnership, Clariant emphasizes the pivotal role of their CATOFIN catalyst in enabling Huizhou Boeko's ambitious venture. The CATOFIN catalyst, known for its superior performance and productivity, is poised to elevate the facility's annual production output, thereby enhancing its overall profitability and competitiveness in the market.

Since its commercial debut in 2017, CATOFIN has emerged as a leading catalyst technology, garnering widespread acclaim and adoption across the globe. With 39 new projects integrated worldwide, over half of which are situated in China, CATOFIN has solidified its reputation as a preferred choice for industry players seeking cutting-edge solutions to meet their evolving needs. In response to the escalating demand from discerning customers like Huizhou Boeko, Clariant has demonstrated its commitment to delivering unparalleled service by inaugurating a new CATOFIN catalyst plant in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, China, in April 2023. This strategic investment underscores Clariant's dedication to providing localized support and ensuring seamless access to innovative catalyst solutions for its esteemed clientele.
