A serious chlorine gas leak Sunday in the central Iranian province of Isfahan resulted in the poisoning of 60 people. The incident took place around 1:40 PM local time (10:10 AM GMT) when a semi-trailer truck carrying chlorine gas cylinders overturned on an intercity road in Shahreza County, approximately 80 kilometers south of the provincial capital, Isfahan.

Promptly after the accident, emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene. The leakage of chlorine gas from one of the cylinders led to the exposure of 60 individuals in the surrounding areas, causing pulmonary toxicity. These affected individuals were swiftly transported to local medical facilities for necessary treatment.

Authorities, including the provincial crisis management department, the Red Crescent Society, traffic police, and law enforcement agencies, worked diligently to contain the situation and restore safety to the affected area. Following their efforts, the road where the incident occurred was reopened to traffic.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with the transportation and handling of hazardous materials. Local authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

This is a developing story; we will update this space as and when more information gets available.
