Chevron, through its joint venture Tengizchevroil LLP, has commenced oil production at the Future Growth Project (FGP) within Kazakhstan’s Tengiz oil field, recognized as the world’s deepest producing supergiant oil field and the largest single-trap producing reservoir. The FGP represents the third processing plant at Tengiz, expanding the field’s sour gas injection capabilities and significantly enhancing its production capacity. At full scale, the project aims to boost crude oil production by 260,000 barrels per day (bb/d), bringing total output to an impressive one million barrels of oil equivalent per day (mboe/d).

Mark Nelson, Chevron’s Vice Chairman, hailed the milestone, emphasizing that the FGP is part of a series of strategic developments—alongside projects in the Gulf of Mexico and the Permian Basin—expected to increase free cash flow and create substantial value for Chevron’s shareholders.

The FGP builds on the recently completed Wellhead Pressure Management Project (WPMP) in 2024, which was designed to optimize field operations and processing capacity. Together, these projects have modernized Tengiz with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including five Frame 9 gas turbine generators, four large compression trains with expanded pumping capacity, a centralized control center, and enhanced systems for sour gas handling and reinjection to maintain long-term field pressure.

Clay Neff, President of Chevron International Exploration & Production, underscored the importance of this milestone, noting that it concludes a multiyear effort to transform one of the world’s largest oil fields into a more efficient and productive operation. He emphasized the significant economic benefits the project brings to Kazakhstan, highlighting the collaboration with local partners, contractors, and the Kazakhstani workforce.

“This accomplishment was possible thanks to our strong partnership with Kazakhstan and the dedication of the local workforce and contractors. Together, we’ve enhanced the energy sector while driving economic growth,” Neff stated.

Tengizchevroil LLP, the entity overseeing operations at the Tengiz oil field, is a Kazakhstani partnership with ownership distributed among Chevron (50%), KazMunayGas (20%), ExxonMobil (25%), and Lukoil (5%).

The successful launch of the FGP positions Chevron and its partners as key contributors to Kazakhstan’s energy landscape while reinforcing the field’s role as a cornerstone of global oil production. This development not only highlights Chevron's technical expertise but also its commitment to fostering local economic growth through long-term, sustainable energy projects.

Chevron Corporation, a leading American energy company, is the second-largest integrated energy firm in the United States. The company specializes in various aspects of the oil and gas industry, including exploration, production, refining, marketing, and transportation.
