CB&I has been awarded a substantial lump-sum contract by the TJN Ruwais JV to Engineer, Procure, and Construct (EPC) two cryogenic tanks and associated infrastructure for a groundbreaking liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE. This project marks a significant milestone as it will be the first net-zero LNG facility in the Middle East.

The TJN Ruwais JV, a collaboration between Technip Energies France-Abu Dhabi, JGC Corporation, and NMDC Energy, selected CB&I for its extensive experience in LNG storage solutions. The contract is valued between $250 million and $500 million.

CB&I will be responsible for the EPC of two massive 180,000m³ full containment concrete LNG tanks, including all necessary piping and civil infrastructure. This undertaking requires a global collaborative effort, with project delivery led from CB&I’s UAE office for tank construction, its Plainfield, Illinois, USA office for engineering, and support from its Saudi Arabia and Thailand offices for fabrication and modularization, respectively. This distributed approach leverages CB&I’s global reach and expertise to ensure efficient and high-quality project execution.

The Ruwais LNG project is poised to play a crucial role in the region's energy landscape, setting a new standard for sustainable LNG production. By achieving net-zero emissions, the facility will significantly reduce its environmental impact, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change. This initiative demonstrates a commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility within the energy sector.

Construction activities are scheduled to commence in November 2025, with project completion targeted for early 2028. The project will not only bolster the region’s LNG export capabilities but also serve as a model for future sustainable energy projects.

“CB&I’s commitment to the Gulf region for delivery of world-class LNG storage began in 1981 and is shown with this latest project award,” stated Mark Butts, CEO of CB&I. He emphasized the company’s ability to offer execution certainty through its global network, balancing cost and quality to deliver the best value to the market. Butts also highlighted the project’s significance in contributing to the ongoing energy transition.

The selection of CB&I for this key project further solidifies the company’s reputation as a trusted partner in the energy industry, particularly in the construction of large-scale LNG storage facilities. This award reinforces CB&I’s long-standing presence and expertise in the Gulf region and its dedication to advancing the energy transition.
