A tragic incident unfolded at Tagoor Laboratories Private Limited, a pharmaceutical unit in Anakapalli, Andhra Pradesh, on Tuesday, November 27. A toxic gas leak involving a mixture hydrogen chloride (HCl) and chloroform resulted in the death of one worker and hospitalization of at least nine others, seven of which are reported to be stable and out of danger.
According to local media reports, the incident occurred at around 4.35pm when a liquid spill led to the release of a hazardous gas mixture, combining HCl with chloroform. This volatile chemical cocktail was inhaled by several workers in the vicinity, causing severe health complications.
District Fire Officer P. Nageswarao confirmed the occurrence of the gas leak and the subsequent fatality. Further details regarding the incident are awaited. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the gas leak.
