A massive fire broke out at Sarvodaya Solvent Chemical Factory in Hyderabad’s Cherlapalli Phase I industrial area on the evening of Tuesday, February 4. The fire was first reported at around 6pm after an explosion in the factory. As many as 10 fire tenders rushed to the spot to get it under control, and many others were called from the nearby stations. As per initial reports, there have been no casualties reported, and all workers present at the time of explosion have been reported to be safe.

The fire reportedly engulfed a rubber manufacturing and another chemical plant nearby.

According to Telangana Times, the chemical reactors in the plant exploded which resulted in the collapse of a four-storeyed building. The loss of property is estimated to be around Rs. 16 crore ($2.88 million approximately). Sarvodaya Chemical, registered in the Indian state of Telangana, majorly deals in manufacturing of metals and chemicals and related products.

During the firefighting operations, there were multiple chemical barrels inside the facility that kept exploding as tenders were deployed. The fire continued billowing till late night and was eventually brought under control in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to the locals, smoke that billowed out of the factory was so intense that the residents rushed out of their homes in fear of the fire spreading to their houses.

Nearby areas have been cordoned off by the police and traffic has been averted. Till the time of publishing this report, there were no official statements from the company or the local police.
