Bolivia: The president of the Andean nation on Thursday, the total amount of proven Lithium resources in Bolivia has climbed by 2 million tons to 23 million tons. The updated estimate strengthens Bolivia's position as the nation with the largest known Lithium resources in the world, which is highly sought after for use in batteries.

The economic landscape of the landlocked South American nation has changed as a result of the finding. Alvaro Arnes, the nation's deputy minister of alternative energy, made it plain that Bolivia wanted to make the most of the situation and sought to dominate the worldwide Lithium market. Due to the fact that Lithium is a crucial ingredient in the production of rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles, demand for the metal has surged in recent years. According to Arnes, the salt flats contain the Lithium and sodium that will be used in batteries in the future.

President Luis Arce remarked in the Coipasa salt flat, about 280 kilometers (175 miles) south of the nation's capital of La Paz, the world's largest Lithium reserve, and how to intelligently manage and utilize this resource for maximum benefit.

As the globe shifts to renewable energy sources and the number of electric vehicles powered by Lithium batteries increases, Bolivia has intensified its hunt for international partners to aid in the development of its Lithium riches.

According to Raul Mayta, Vice minister of exploration and exploitation of energy resources, the estimate of Bolivia's reserves increased because of more geological research in the salt flats of Coipasa and Pasto Grandes. He made this statement to Bolivia TV, the country's official television channel.

In the international Lithium market, Bolivia has lagged its neighbors Chile and Argentina after 14 years of little improvement, and Arce is working to change that. A significant portion of the Lithium reserves that have been independently verified worldwide are in the three countries.

To develop the Lithium reserves in Bolivia, the government of Arce inked a contract with Citic Guoan of China and Uranium One Group of Russia last month. Together, they committed to spending $1.4 billion to build two factories on the Pastos Grandes salt flats that will begin producing and exporting 50,000 tons of Lithium yearly as of 2025.

When the government and Contemporary Amperex Technology of China inked a contract in January, a comparable investment was disclosed.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the Lithium Triangle region in South America, which includes Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile, holds the largest lithium deposits in the world. Argentina has the second-largest deposits, estimated at 20 million tons, followed by the United States with 12 million tons, and Chile with 11 million tons. According to the U.S. government, Australia is the world's largest producer of Lithium, followed by Chile and China in third place.
