England: Biffa has recently purchased Esterpet, a Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) plastic recycling company based in North Yorkshire. As per the report by North East Post, this acquisition includes a minority stake in Esterpet's sister company, Esterform, which is a PET preforms manufacturer.
Esterpet runs a cutting-edge recycling facility located near Leeds that transforms approximately 25,000 tonnes of plastic flakes obtained from plastic bottles into top-quality plastic pellets each year.
Biffa, a leading UK-based sustainable waste management company, has partnered with Esterform and other partners to support the country's circular economy for plastic packaging. The pellets produced by Biffa's facility are utilized in the production of plastic containers for beverages, cosmetics, and household items. The acquisition of Esterform is a significant step towards expanding their capability in recycled PET, meeting the increasing demand for sustainable alternatives as consumers and regulators prioritize sustainability.
Biffa, a UK-based waste management company, is set to operate closed-loop food-grade plastic recycling facilities in Seaham, Redcar, and Washington, Tyne and Wear. The move is expected to help the company increase its sustainability efforts by reducing plastic waste and promoting circular economy. Additionally, Biffa recently announced an investment of over £80 million to develop necessary infrastructure for the implementation of Scotland's Deposit Return Scheme for bottles and cans.
