Balkrishna Industries Limited, a company engaged in the manufacturing of tire tubes and tire flabs, has recently commenced a trial production in the brownfield expansion project of carbon black, ahead of the schedule. Trial of first phase of carbon black production had commenced on 29 June 2019. In addition, the trial production of second phase of carbon black plant with a capacity of 80 KTA commenced yesterday i.e. on 12 March 2020 at Bhuj, Gujarat. Altogether, carbon plant at Bhuj is expected to run at full capacity utilization of 140 KTA to provide enough supply of raw material required for tire industry. The purpose behind this massive expansion is to expand company’s footprint in the domestic as well as global market. According to Mr. Poddar, Managing Director and Chairman of Balkrishna Tires, the commercial production in the whole carbon black plant is anticipated to take place around June 2020. However, the early trial of the phase 2 plant may initiate the start of the plant before the scheduled date.
