Baker Hughes, a leading energy technology company, has announced a strategic partnership with Frontier Infrastructure, a Tailwater Capital portfolio company specializing in low-carbon infrastructure development across the U.S. Mountain West and Texas. This collaboration aims to accelerate the deployment of large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) solutions, power generation, and data center projects across the United States.

As part of the agreement, Baker Hughes will provide advanced technologies and resources to support the development of critical infrastructure projects, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy solutions. Frontier Infrastructure is spearheading the development of the Sweetwater Carbon Storage Hub (SCS Hub), one of the largest open-source carbon sequestration assets in the country. Covering nearly 100,000 acres in Wyoming, the SCS Hub is designed to serve industrial emitters across the region and ethanol facilities throughout the Midwest via its CO2-by-rail strategy. The initiative sets a new benchmark for scalable carbon storage infrastructure.

Frontier currently holds three Class VI permits for carbon sequestration and has begun drilling its first wells, with initial carbon injection expected to commence by the end of 2025. Through this partnership, Baker Hughes will contribute key technology solutions, including expertise in well design, CO2 compression, and long-term monitoring, to optimize project execution and enhance financial certainty for Frontier’s operations.

In addition to carbon storage, Frontier is expanding its infrastructure footprint with new behind-the-meter power generation projects to meet increasing energy demands. This includes the development of 256 megawatts (MW) of gas-fired power generation capacity in Wyoming, the broader Mountain West, and Texas—regions experiencing growing electricity demand due to the rapid expansion of data centers and industrial operations. Baker Hughes will deploy its NovaLT™ gas turbines to support these power generation efforts, ensuring efficient and flexible energy delivery.

Robby Rockey, President and Co-CEO of Frontier Infrastructure, emphasized the significance of this collaboration: “With energy demand rising nationwide, industrial customers need scalable, low-carbon solutions. Frontier’s expanded infrastructure provides exactly that—integrating gas-fired energy with permanent carbon storage to create a reliable, sustainable power solution. Baker Hughes’ expertise in turbine technology, drilling services, and CCS innovation makes them an ideal partner to execute this vision.”

Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes, highlighted the company’s commitment to enabling sustainable industrial growth: “Baker Hughes is dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that address rising energy demands, particularly with the rapid adoption of AI and data centers. Our collaboration with Frontier Infrastructure demonstrates how our portfolio is uniquely positioned to support CCUS projects for lower-carbon industrial and energy development.”

As Frontier’s projects advance, Baker Hughes anticipates additional orders related to this agreement. Frontier Infrastructure is a portfolio company of Tailwater Capital, a private equity firm specializing in energy and environmental infrastructure investments. The company was advised by Jefferies LLC as its financial adviser and Sidley Austin LLP as its legal adviser.
