Arkema, a leader in specialty materials, proudly announces that its powder coating resins facility in Sant Celoni, Spain, has achieved ISCC+ certification. This milestone is part of Arkema's broader initiative to decarbonize the global coating value chain. The certification expands Arkema’s portfolio of mass balance solutions, now featuring up to 40% bio-attributed powder polyester resins, resulting in a product carbon footprint reduction of up to 25%.

The Sant Celoni facility is equipped with a polyester resin production line and a cutting-edge R&D laboratory focused on enhancing the sustainability and performance of powder coating materials. Arkema identifies the powder coating market as a strategic growth area due to its inherent sustainability benefits, including being solvent-free, generating minimal waste, and having low energy consumption.

With the ISCC+ certification, Arkema can now offer an extensive portfolio of bio-mass-balance coating solutions. This comprehensive range includes waterborne coatings, UV/EB (ultraviolet/electron beam) curing systems, advanced liquid resins, and powder resins. These innovative products are tailored for diverse industries, addressing the growing demand for sustainable solutions. They are particularly suitable for new mobility sectors, supporting the development of electric and hybrid vehicles, decarbonized industrial environments, promoting cleaner manufacturing processes, and green buildings, enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability. Additionally, these coatings are ideal for creating more sustainable homes, including applications in furniture and household appliances, contributing to reduced environmental impact and improved eco-friendliness.

The site also manufactures advanced polyester liquid resins, now capable of achieving up to 25% bio-attributed content and reducing the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) by up to 20%, thus supporting the decarbonization of key industrial applications such as coil and packaging coatings.

Neil Tariq, Global Business Director of Arkema Coating Resins, highlighted the robust growth of the global powder coatings market, driven by significant trends across end-user markets and the sustainability of the technology. He emphasized Arkema's commitment to supporting customers worldwide by providing materials that aid in further decarbonizing their products and achieving their sustainability objectives. Tariq reaffirmed Arkema's dedication to enabling customers to meet their environmental goals through innovative and sustainable coating solutions.

Arkema is consistently investing in powder coating technology. The company recently unveiled an innovative manufacturing process that incorporates up to 40% post-consumer recycled content from end-of-life packaging products into powder coating resins. Additionally, in February 2019, Arkema commenced operations at a state-of-the-art polyester resin manufacturing facility and dedicated laboratory in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and technological advancement.
