ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture between industry giants ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, has introduced Optigal—a top-tier color-coated steel brand featuring advanced Zinc-Aluminium-Magnesium (ZAM) metallic coating technology.

ArcelorMittal Europe's patented high-end steel, Optigal, renowned for its value-added properties, is now being produced and distributed in India for the first time by AM/NS India. This move underscores the company's commitment to delivering internationally benchmarked quality products and addressing the increasing demand for superior quality coated steel within the Indian market.

CEO Mr. Dilip Oommen at a recent event in Kochi, Kerala, launched Optigal, which highlights AM/NS India’s dedication to the Make in India initiative. This new product, offering the longest warranty of any color-coated steel in India—up to 25 years—marks a groundbreaking entry into the country’s specialty steel market.

Optigal has officially launched production at its Pune plant in Maharashtra, initiating the first phase of a strategic expansion plan that will see production extend to additional facilities soon. AM/NS India, currently with a colour-coated capacity of approximately 700,000 tonnes, aims to increase this to 1 million tonnes by 2026. This expansion is expected to boost the company's market share from the current 20-22% to a targeted 25-27%, significantly strengthening its presence in the market.

The new Optigal product utilizes a cutting-edge ZAM alloy technology, which involves hot-dip coating steel strips in a bath of zinc, aluminium, and magnesium alloy. The addition of magnesium significantly enhances the product’s performance and longevity, while the optimal combination of substrate and paint ensures exceptional formability and superior corrosion resistance, making it ideal for construction applications. Additionally, Optigal is an environmentally friendly solution, as it is free of hexavalent chromium and heavy metals. This commitment to sustainability not only minimizes environmental impact but also promotes safety and supports sustainable practices within the industry.

The versatility of Optigal positions it as an excellent choice for a variety of applications. Its robustness makes it suitable for roofing, fencing, and cladding in both residential and commercial projects. Additionally, it serves as a dependable material for pre-engineered buildings and high-performance steel for architectural facades. Optigal is ideal for use in a range of structures, including airports, industrial warehouses, and stadiums, where durability and aesthetic appeal are crucial. Its broad applicability underscores its value in diverse construction and architectural applications.

Ranjan Dhar, Director and Vice-President of Sales & Marketing at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), stated, "The launch of Optigal marks a significant expansion of our product range. It underscores our dedication to providing innovative and sustainable steel solutions across the country, aligned with our brand promise of 'Smarter Steels, Brighter Futures.
