Apical Group, a global leader in palm oil processing, is significantly expanding its Crude Palm Oil (CPO) plant in Padang, West Sumatra, aiming to double its production capacity and capitalize on Indonesia's booming palm oil export market. The expansion, spearheaded by its subsidiary PT Padang Raya Cakrawala (PRC), signals a major investment in the region's economic growth and strengthens Indonesia's position as a key player in the global palm oil industry.
On March 18, 2025, Dodi Saputra, Head of PT Padang Raya Cakrawala, revealed that the company's production target will soar to 7,000 tons per day, doubling the current 3,500 tons per day. This ambitious goal is driven by the increasing global demand for CPO, and the groundbreaking for the expansion project, which commenced in July 2024 at the Teluk Bayur facility, is slated for completion by early 2026.
This expansion reflects Apical Group's long-term commitment to the downstream development of Indonesia's palm oil sector. A top-five global processor, Apical has been operating in Indonesia for 15 years, contributing significantly to the national and local economies. Prama Yudha Amdan, Head of Corporate Communication at Apical Group, emphasized the company's dedication to fostering strong partnerships with stakeholders and local communities, highlighting their intent to create a positive impact in West Sumatra.
The local government has demonstrated strong support for Apical Group’s initiatives. Yozarwardi Usama Putra, the acting Secretary of West Sumatra, praised the company's commitment to local growth and urged all stakeholders to cultivate a healthy investment climate in the province. He acknowledged the importance of Apical's investment in boosting the region's economy and creating employment opportunities.
Beyond its industrial expansion, Apical Group is also actively engaged in community-oriented initiatives. The company recently hosted a fast-breaking event with stakeholders and partners in West Sumatra, which included providing assistance to orphans, reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility.
This strategic expansion of Apical Group in Padang, coupled with the impressive growth in Indonesia's CPO exports, marks a significant milestone for the country's palm oil industry. By bridging the gap between rising global demand and domestic industrial capabilities, Apical Group is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Indonesia's palm oil sector. The ongoing developments are expected to have a profound impact on local communities and contribute to the broader economic prosperity of Indonesia. The increased production and export capacity will also support the creation of jobs and stimulate further investment in the region.
