Anaergia Inc, a global leader in developing solutions for the production of renewable energy and resource recovery from waste, has announced a significant collaboration with JGC Holdings Corporation, a prominent engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm. Through its subsidiary, Anaergia Singapore has entered into a Letter of Intent (LOI) to provide its cutting-edge technology and equipment for a new renewable natural gas (RNG) project in Japan.

The project aims to establish a state-of-the-art facility capable of processing substantial volumes of organic waste, specifically cow manure and food waste, to generate biomethane and valuable fertilizer.

Under the terms of the LOI, Anaergia will supply its comprehensive suite of technologies, including its advanced feedstock pretreatment solution, high-efficiency anaerobic digestion system, and digestate management solution. These technologies are designed to maximize the conversion of organic waste into renewable energy, ensuring optimal throughput and efficiency.

The facility is projected to handle over 56,000 tons of cow manure and more than 5,000 tons of food waste annually. This substantial input will be transformed into approximately 1,700,000 cubic meters of biomethane, equivalent to renewable natural gas, and nutrient-rich fertilizer. This output will significantly contribute to Japan's efforts to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and promote a circular economy.

Masahiro Aika, Executive Vice President of JGC Holdings Corporation, emphasized the project's significance in aligning with the company's commitment to environmental stewardship. "Anaergia's integrated technical solutions will enable JGC to develop a unique facility that will take in two different waste streams and will generate renewal gas that can significantly decarbonize fuel supply," stated Mr. Aika. "Therefore, this facility will reflect our commitment to enhancing the intertwined health of humans and the Earth."

Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia, highlighted the project's role in showcasing the company's differentiated capabilities in large-scale RNG infrastructure development. "This project is another example of Anaergia’s differentiated capabilities being used to support development of large-scale RNG infrastructure projects," said Mr. Onn. "Furthermore, I believe this facility will be an important reference site in Japan, a market in which we see exciting potential."

JGC Holdings Corporation, with a rich history dating back to 1928, has established itself as a global leader in delivering complex industrial projects across various sectors, particularly in the energy industry. With a portfolio encompassing over 20,000 projects in more than 80 countries, JGC's expertise and reputation are instrumental in ensuring the successful implementation of this ambitious RNG project.
