Netherland: LanzaJet, a prominent company in sustainable fuels technology, and Airbus, a worldwide leader in the aerospace industry, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to tackle the aviation industry's demands by creating sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The CEO of LanzaJet, Jimmy Samartzis, and Julie Kitcher, Executive Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Airbus, signed the agreement during the Paris Air Show.

LanzaJet and Airbus have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the creation of SAF facilities utilizing LanzaJet Process™, a proven proprietary Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) technology. Additionally, the MOU aims to accelerate the certification and implementation of 100% drop-in SAF, which would enable the aviation industry to eliminate the use of fossil fuels without requiring any changes to current aircraft or infrastructure. According to recent studies, the aviation sector accounts for nearly 2-3% of worldwide Carbon Dioxide emissions. As a result, airlines, energy leaders, and governments have recognized SAF as a top decarbonization solution, especially in tandem with more advanced aircraft fleets and optimized operations.

According to LanzaJet's CEO, Jimmy Samartzis, SAF represents the most effective short-term solution for decreasing aviation emissions, and the partnership between LanzaJet and Airbus marks a crucial milestone in the battle against climate change and the promotion of worldwide energy transition. He expressed his eagerness to maintain their ongoing collaboration with Airbus and extend their collective influence across the globe.

LanzaJet has developed a unique ATJ technology that employs low-Carbon ethanol to produce SAF, leading to a reduction of over 70% in greenhouse gas emissions relative to traditional fossil fuels. Moreover, LanzaJet's suite of Carbon reduction technologies can further reduce emissions. SAF produced using the ATJ method is an approved drop-in fuel that works seamlessly with existing aircraft and infrastructure.

Julie Kitcher, the EVP of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Airbus, expressed her delight in deepening their partnership with LanzaJet, a top company in the SAF production ecosystem. As part of Airbus' commitment to utilizing SAF as a key tool in reducing CO2 emissions, this collaboration will explore technological advancements that will allow for Airbus aircraft to run on up to 100% SAF by the end of the decade. Partnering with LanzaJet, a trusted ally, will also aid in speeding up the Alcohol-to-Jet SAF production pathway.

To guarantee the widespread use of SAF, the entire ecosystem must contribute. Alongside their efforts in SAF projects and technical aspects, LanzaJet and Airbus will collaborate on exploring business prospects with airlines and other stakeholders worldwide. This approach will aid in promoting and facilitating the adoption of SAF across the industry.
