On 27 March 2024, ADNOC has made a significant announcement regarding the initiation of crude oil production from the Belbazem offshore block, a testament to its commitment to meeting the global energy demand responsibly.
This Belbazem offshore block is managed by Al Yasat Petroleum, a joint venture between ADNOC and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). The development of the Belbazem block incorporates innovative strategies such as operational integration with neighboring fields, artificial intelligence (AI), and digitalization to enhance efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability while minimizing costs and emissions.
Abdulmunim Saif Al Kindy, ADNOC Upstream Executive Director, highlighted the importance of this milestone, stating, "The commencement of crude oil production from the Belbazem offshore block underscores the success of our strategic partnership with CNPC and the robust energy collaboration between the UAE and China. ADNOC remains committed to maximizing the value of Abu Dhabi's resources while reducing our carbon footprint to ensure a reliable and responsible energy supply to local and international customers."
The production capacity of the Belbazem offshore block is set to progressively increase to 45,000 barrels per day (bpd) of light crude and 27 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of associated gas. This contributes to ADNOC's objective of achieving a production capacity of 5 million bpd by 2027 and promoting gas self-sufficiency for the UAE.
Al Yasat is leading the adoption of AI modeling and analysis tools across its offshore concession area. The Belbazem block employs WellInsight, an AI tool created by AIQ, to analyze reservoir data and oversee operations, thereby improving safety and performance. Additionally, the block integrates advanced technologies already employed at Al Yasat's Bu Haseer offshore field to optimize production and reservoir management.
Through leveraging operational synergies and utilizing the facilities of Satah Al Razboot (SARB), an offshore field operated by ADNOC Offshore, the Belbazem block achieves cost savings and reduces environmental impact. Situated 120 kilometers northwest of Abu Dhabi city, the Belbazem Block comprises three offshore fields: Belbazem, Umm Al Salsal, and Umm Al Dholou.
Established in 1971, ADNOC stands as a prominent diversified energy group, fully owned by the Abu Dhabi Government. ADNOC network of integrated businesses spans the entire energy value chain, enabling them to responsibly address the evolving needs of the energy market. Already positioned among the top tier of the world's lowest carbon intensity oil and gas producers, ADNOC is actively pursuing measures to enhance the environmental sustainability of today's energy resources while also investing in cleaner energy alternatives for the future.
