Malaysia's Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) and Korea's LG Chem Ltd have joined hands to build a Nitrile Butadiene latex (NBL) manufacturing plant at Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) in Johor, a Malaysian state. The construction of the 200 KTPA NBL plant is set to begin in 2021 while operations are scheduled to start in 2023.
The investment has been made keeping in mind rising demand for nitrile gloves in the global market which would facilitate strengthening of Malaysia’s position as the world leader in the rubber gloves exports. An official from PetChem stated that the partnership would enable the group’s penetration in the specialty chemicals portfolio and would enable both the companies to create new revenue sources in the near terms.
