Nevada [US]: Aquatech is proud to share they have been selected by Lithium Americas Corp. to deliver the Lithium refining and purification process plants for the Thacker Pass Lithium project in Nevada. This project is one of the most important developments in U.S. Lithium reserves, making it a major milestone for Aquatech's success.
Aquatech has begun work on an ambitious project, utilizing evaporation and crystallization systems for Li2CO3 purification and chemical production. Lithium Americas and Aquatech are collaborating to ensure that the most efficient technology, with a focus on environmental protection, is used in this leading-edge project.
Lithium Americas and ICD Process Technologies, a division of Aquatech have achieved a major milestone. After two years of joint work conducting pilot work, they have managed to produce over 99.9% purity of Li2CO3 from Thacker Pass Lithium-bearing clays. This successful demonstration at both Aquatech's Applied Development and Testing Facility in Wisconsin and Lithium Americas' Technical Development Centre in Nevada will enable the company to move forward with Phase 1 of the Thacker Pass facility, which is set to produce 40,000 tpa LCE.
"Starting construction is a momentous milestone for Thacker Pass," stated Jonathan Evans, President and Chief Executive Officer at Lithium Americas. "We are excited about the prospect of working with our partners to generate economic growth in Northern Nevada and play a major role in the domestic Lithium supply chain for electric vehicles."
Aquatech is a leader in providing process technology for refining and purifying battery-grade Lithium chemical products from clays, brines, and hard rock. It boasts state-of-the-art development, validation, and testing techniques to ensure the lowest carbon and water footprints with minimal environmental impact. Its innovative approach allows it to optimize and sustainably produce Lithium with an unparalleled level of efficiency.
"Aquatech is fully committed to our partnership with Lithium Americas and proud to be a part of the team working towards this landmark achievement at Thacker Pass," stated Venkee Sharma, Aquatech's Executive Chairman. "Delivering innovative process technology to enable critical mineral recovery from extraction to high-purity products for electric vehicle battery production and battery recycling is a top priority at Aquatech. Moving towards energy decarbonization is a critical step to adapt to a changing climate, and we are devoted to supporting industries in these efforts."
Thacker Pass is on the brink of becoming one of the most significant developments in Lithium production worldwide. Once complete, the project has the potential to yield up to 80,000 metric tons of Lithium carbonate a year - enough to meet growing demand for high-grade Lithium products required by electric vehicle makers. The development marks an important milestone in Lithium Americas' pursuit to facilitate a worldwide transition towards clean energy sources.
